Postgraduate Program

               


 

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine currently offers postgraduate programme in the field of veterinary and animal sciences. Post-graduate research is the mainstay of Faculty research activities. Research in the Faculty focusses on the advancement in areas beyond the borders of veterinary and animal sciences current knowledge in disease diagnosis, medicine and animal production.


Postgraduate programmes in the Faculty that began in 1979 is managed by UPM Graduate Studies Committee, a subcommittee of the University Senate. This committee is responsible for student admission, appointment of supervisors, and thesis examination. The office of Deputy Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research of the Faculty serves as the secretariat for this Committee.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine offers four (4) graduate programmes:

i) Graduate programme through laboratory and clinical practices and taught courses

 

ii) Graduate programme through research

 

OBJECTIVES

The post-graduate programme at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine are offered
with the following objectives:

  • to provide opportunities for further education in the chosen specialisation
  • to provide training in independent scientific research and investigation
  • to develop sense of curiosity in academic and scholastic research.

Full-Time: 2 years - 5 years
Part-Time: 4 years - 6 years (For local student only)

POSTGRADUATE COURSES

  • The post-graduate courses are numbered according to the 5000 or 6000 series
  • Course can be taken as audit and their credits that will not considered in the calculation
    of CGPA 

 

SUPERVISORY COMMITTEE

  • Based on the Universiti Putra Malaysia (Graduate Studies) Rules 2003 (Revision 2015-2017): Any student in a research-based program who fails to nominate the members of their Supervisory Committee (JKP) by the second semester of study at the latest will have their academic status changed to 'Suspended' in the third semester. The status will then be changed to 'Terminated' if the student still fails to do so by the fourth semester of study.
  • Students with a 'Suspended' status will not be permitted to register for any courses until they have nominated their Supervisory Committee members and received approval from the University Graduate Studies Committee (JKPSU).

 

COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION

1. Written Examination can be carried out as either :

  1. take home assignment, or;
  2. formal examination

2. Oral Examination conducted by either:

  1. Supervisory Committee, or;
  2. a Special committee appointed by the Faculty/ School/Institute.

 

3. CE should be completed by as early as possible. Existing rules allow full-time PhD student to sit for CE as early as third (3rd) semester, but no later than fourth (4th) semester.

 

4. For part-time PhD student (applicable for Malaysia citizen only), CE can be taken as early as third (3rd) semester, but no later than sixth (6th) semester
