SERDANG, 10 February – The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery (JPPHK), in collaboration with Anihealth Sdn. Bhd., organised the programme “Eye Essentials: Practical Ophthalmology for Cats & Dogs,” held at the Jemaah Room, FPV.

The programme was organised and led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khor Kuan Hua as an initiative to strengthen knowledge and skills in the field of veterinary ophthalmology, particularly in relation to eye examination, diagnosis, and management of ocular diseases in dogs and cats. This initiative aligns with the growing demand for high-quality veterinary ophthalmology services and the increasing awareness among pet owners of the importance of eye health.

A total of 70 participants, comprising veterinary officers, clinical practitioners, and members of FPV, took part in the seminar. The programme content included lecture sessions, case studies, and hands-on training that emphasised a systematic approach to eye examination and the application of evidence-based clinical practice.

The seminar featured Dr. Sim Zhi Hui, Teaching Fellow of JPPHK, as the main speaker. She shared her expertise in various aspects of companion animal eye health, fundamental techniques in ophthalmic examination, the use of ocular pharmacotherapeutics in Malaysia, as well as the management of clinical cases commonly encountered in daily practice.

Hands-on sessions and interactive discussions provided participants with the opportunity to apply their knowledge directly using appropriate ophthalmic equipment. This approach helped enhance understanding, diagnostic accuracy, and confidence in formulating safe and effective treatment plans.

The organisation of this programme reflects the continuous commitment of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UPM, to strengthening the professional competency of veterinary practitioners and supporting improvements in the quality of companion animal healthcare services at the clinical level.
