SERDANG, 13 July – The University Veterinary Hospital (UVH), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), participated in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR-STEM) Programme on 27 June 2026 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Rahman Putra, Selangor. The programme was a collaborative initiative between the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Rahman Putra to cultivate students' interest in STEM through interactive and experiential learning activities.

The programme involved Year 4 to Year 6 students who were selected based on their academic excellence. During the two-hour session, participants were introduced to the field of veterinary medicine through a series of talks and interactive activities. The UVH team was led by the programme speaker, Dr. Siti Sarismahanim Ismail, together with six facilitators comprising Veterinary Officers, a Pharmacy Officer, Assistant Veterinary Officers, and Veterinary Assistants, who collectively ensured the successful delivery of all planned activities.

A variety of practical activities were conducted to provide participants with first-hand learning experiences. These included an introduction to animal anatomy, medication administration techniques, blood collection simulations using Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) equipment, wound suturing practice using suture pads, injury bandaging techniques, milk milking demonstrations, and milk quality assessment. This hands-on learning approach successfully enhanced participants' engagement throughout the programme.

The programme speaker, Dr. Siti Sarismahanim Ismail, said, "I greatly appreciate the commitment of the Parent-Teacher Association of Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Rahman Putra for consistently supporting student development programmes such as this. In addition, the Faculty of Dentistry, UiTM, has played a significant role through its various educational initiatives with schools to strengthen young people's interest in STEM from an early age."

She added that the programme provided the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine with an opportunity to introduce the veterinary profession to students who had previously been more familiar with the fields of medicine and dentistry. According to her, the hands-on learning approach successfully broadened participants' understanding of the scope of the veterinary profession while strengthening the relationship between the university and the community through knowledge sharing, professional expertise, and strategic collaboration between higher education institutions and schools.
