FPV UPM Hosts International-Level Workshop on Companion Animal Dentistry

SERDANG, 15 July – The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through the Department of Clinical Veterinary Studies and the Department of Companion Animal Medicine and Surgery, in collaboration with Medical Plus NM (M) Sdn. Bhd., successfully organised the Feline and Canine Dentistry Workshop 2025, held from 7 to 9 July at the Bilik Jemaah and the Student Surgery Room, FPV UPM.

The aim of the workshop was to enhance the knowledge and clinical skills of veterinary practitioners in the field of companion animal dentistry, covering areas such as oral examination, radiographic techniques, the use of local anaesthesia, tooth extraction, and the treatment of jaw fractures.

Combining both theoretical and practical components, the workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of dental case management in cats and dogs.

The workshop featured two renowned international veterinary dentistry experts, Dr Cedric Tutt from Cape Animal Dentistry Service, South Africa, and Dr Philippe Roux from Dentovet Sàrl, Switzerland, who shared their expertise through lectures and hands-on clinical demonstrations.

Among the key topics covered during the workshop were oral examination techniques and dental charting, the use of computed tomography (CT) in veterinary dentistry, and methods for jaw fracture stabilisation. The practical sessions gave participants the opportunity to perform key clinical procedures themselves, reinforcing their existing skills.

A total of 30 local veterinary practitioners took part in the workshop. The successful organisation of this programme reflects FPV UPM’s ongoing commitment, together with its industry partners, to strengthening the veterinary profession through focused and high-quality continuing education, aligned with the latest advancements in companion animal dentistry.
