Veterinary Nurse Seminar and Workshop 2026 Strengthens Animal Welfare and Behavioural Practices

SERDANG, 26–27 January – The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through the Department of Veterinary Clinical Studies, successfully organised the Veterinary Nurse Seminar and Workshop 2026 in collaboration with Elanco Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Ceva Animal Health Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., and Hanavet Sdn. Bhd.

This two-day programme was a continuation of the Animal Care: Veterinary Nurse Workshop 2025 and aimed to enhance veterinary nurses’ understanding of animal behaviour and welfare, particularly for cats and dogs in the clinical environment. The programme emphasised the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare, fear-free veterinary practices, and animal handling based on natural behaviour.

A total of 150 participants attended the seminar on 26 January 2026, while 50 participants took part in the workshop session on 27 January 2026. The programme combined lectures and hands-on training covering pain identification and management, basic behavioural diagnosis, and effective animal handling techniques in veterinary practice.

The workshop session also featured specialised practical activities, including a skin workshop, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training, and the identification and management of hypertension cases, aimed at strengthening participants’ practical skills and clinical preparedness.

The programme featured experienced speakers from academia and industry, including an international guest speaker, Ms. Hayley Walters from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, who delivered her session online.

Overall, the programme reflects FVM UPM’s continued commitment to professional development, industry collaboration, and the advancement of high-quality animal welfare practices and veterinary services in Malaysia.
