SERDANG, 18 June – The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through its Department of Veterinary Clinical Studies and in collaboration with Hanavet Sdn. Bhd., successfully organised the Animal Care: Veterinary Nurse Workshop 2025 at the Faculty’s Bilik Jemaah and Bilik Tutorial 12.

The workshop brought together 60 participants comprising veterinary nurses and animal clinic staff, with the aim of strengthening their understanding and practical skills in feline behaviour and handling within a clinical setting.

This initiative focused on the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare, emphasising the importance of allowing animals to express their natural behaviour. The programme sought to improve participants’ abilities to recognise both normal and abnormal behaviours in cats, and to apply effective handling techniques that reduce stress and promote animal welfare.

Key speakers included Dr. Syamira Syazuana binti Zaini, Dr. Ngiow Ee Wen, Associate Professor Dr. Chen Hui Cheng, and Dr. Nor-Alimah binti Rahman, who delivered lectures on fear-free veterinary practice, pheromone-based feline stress management, pain in small animal surgery, and emergency and critical care.

The programme also featured hands-on workshops and interactive sessions designed to enhance practical knowledge in recognising and managing pain in animals. A token of appreciation was presented to the speakers and the industry partner for their support and contributions.

This workshop reflects FPV UPM’s ongoing commitment to continuous professional development, industry collaboration, and the advancement of animal welfare practices in Malaysia.
