UPM Strengthens the Equine Industry Through a Training Course Sponsored by Lembaga Totalisator Malaysia

SERDANG, 8 July – The University Veterinary Hospital (UVH), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organised the Kursus Pemantapan Asas Pengurusan dan Kesihatan Kuda from 23 to 24 June 2026 at the Perbadanan Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya. The course was designed to enhance participants' knowledge, skills, and professionalism in equine management, care, and health.

 

The programme combined theoretical lectures with practical training covering health management, nutrition, wound care, emergency case management, horse welfare, musculoskeletal disorders, lameness evaluation, and colic management. These sessions provided participants with valuable exposure to best practices in equine medicine and management.

 

The course brought together 30 participants from various government agencies, including the Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj), Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), and Skuadron Istiadat Berkuda (SIB). The knowledge-sharing sessions were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurul Hayah Khairuddin, Dr. Noorashimah Roslim, and Dr. Syahirah Ahmad Affandi from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UPM.

 

In the closing remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of the Lembaga Totalisator Malaysia, Puan Nor Hashimah Hashim, said, "The Lembaga Totalisator Malaysia remains fully committed to supporting knowledge transfer initiatives such as this. Our strategic collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia, represents a valuable investment in ensuring the welfare and health of our working animals are maintained at the highest standards."

 

She expressed hope that the knowledge and skills acquired during the course would be effectively applied within the participants' respective organisations. Fully sponsored by the Lembaga Totalisator Malaysia, the course also demonstrated UVH's commitment to strengthening professional competencies and fostering strategic partnerships to advance Malaysia's equine industry.
