SERDANG, 21 May –The University Veterinary Hospital (UVH), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), Universiti Putra Malaysia, organised “A Seminar on Responsible Parasite Prescription, Prevention Programs and Resistance Issues in Dogs and Cats” on 20 May 2026 at the Bilik Jemaah, FPV, UPM. The seminar was held as an initiative to enhance awareness on responsible parasite management in animals based on the One Health concept.

The seminar focused on the importance of proper selection and prevention of antiparasitic treatments in companion animals, particularly dogs and cats. Emphasis was given to the zoonotic threats caused by parasitic infections that may affect human health, while also impacting animal welfare and overall environmental sustainability.

The programme involved the participation of 45 attendees from FPV and Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS). Participants consisted of academic officers, Veterinary Officers, Assistant Veterinary Officers, Veterinary Assistants, and officers directly involved in pharmaceutical management and veterinary services.

The seminar featured knowledge-sharing sessions on responsible antiparasitic prescription practices, systematic parasite prevention programmes, and global antiparasitic resistance issues. The session also highlighted how increasing antiparasitic resistance may disrupt zoonotic disease control and pose implications for public health. The sharing session was delivered by Dr. Duangkhamol Suraruangchai from MSD Animal Health based on current clinical developments and challenges in the veterinary field.

Through the organisation of this seminar, UVH remains committed to strengthening its role as a teaching hospital and clinical referral centre by emphasising safe, ethical, and knowledge-based veterinary practices, while supporting the well-being of animals, humans, and the environment comprehensively.
