Horse Therapy Volunteer Workshop with RDA Malaysia

AMPANG, Oct 6 - The Putra Equestrian Club, in collaboration with the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), Malaysia organised a Horse Therapy Volunteer Workshop at the Royal Selangor Polo Club, Ampang on October 5 and 6.

The programme was attended by 18 participants from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and MAHSA University. It aimed to teach and train university students to become trained volunteers in the field of horse therapy for children with special needs.

The programme is part of a long-term collaboration between the Putra Equestrian Club and the RDA, and it serves as a basic training for the volunteers prior to the Horse Therapy Program scheduled to start on October 27.

The Advisor of the Putra Equestrian Club, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurul Hayah Khairuddin, inspired the horse equestrian volunteer programme for the Putra Equestrian Club members so that club members could contribute in helping autistic children through horse therapy activities under the guidance of RDA.

“The Horse Therapy Programme for the autistic children will be held every Sunday morning at the Equine Unit, University Agricultural Park (TPU), UPM,” she said.

The Head Coach for Horse Therapy, Muthusamy Kandasamy, has expressed interest in sharing his knowledge of horse therapy to the community and other educational institutions.

“The collaboration between the Putra Equestrian Club and the RDA will serve as a platform to expand UPM students' knowledge of horse therapy as well as foster compassion and empathy towards the special needs community,” he said - UPM
