SERDANG, 6 February – The University Veterinary Hospital (UVH), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organised the Basic Endurance Horse Management and Training Seminar held at Nanostix Flagship, Kuala Lumpur. The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Neo Enduro Equestrian Team as an initiative to strengthen fundamental knowledge and skills in horse management and training for endurance sports.

The seminar brought together 15 participants comprising horse owners, riders, and trainers from the Neo Enduro Equestrian Team. The programme served as a structured and focused platform for knowledge transfer, particularly in aspects of preparation before, during, and after endurance competitions.

The programme content covered three main sessions, namely Basic Horse Management, Endurance Laws and Regulations, and Basic Principles of Endurance Horse Training. All sessions provided participants with comprehensive exposure to the physical, mental, and technical management of horses, in line with internationally established endurance sport rules and guidelines.

The knowledge-sharing sessions were delivered by experienced speakers in veterinary medicine and equine sports, namely Associate Professor Dr Noraniza binti Mohd Adzahan, Dr Noorashimah binti Roslim, and Dr Syahirah binti Ahmad Affandi. These expert sessions were further supported by question-and-answer segments to strengthen participants’ understanding of the topics discussed.

The organisation of this seminar reflects FPV’s commitment through UVH to supporting the development of the national endurance sport sector while strengthening strategic relationships between the university and the equine industry. This initiative indirectly contributes to improving standards of horse care, welfare, and performance, while reinforcing UPM’s role as a reference centre in veterinary medicine and equine sports in Malaysia.

Dr. Noraniza explains the basic methods for training endurance horses.

Dr. Noorashimah explains the appropriate body condition score for endurance horses.

Dr. Syahirah explains the FEI Code of Ethics for Horse Welfare.
