Esophagostomy Feeding Tube, Nasogastric Tube And Chest Tube Placement Workshop.

December 3rd - The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in collaboration with Rhone Ma Malaysia Sdn.Bhd held a program "Esophagostomy Feeding Tube Installation Workshop, Nasogastric Tube and Chest Tube". This workshop aims to share and transfer knowledge to participants about how to help feed animals through tubes nose and esophagus with the right quantity in order to achieve the calculation of daily energy requirements for patients in critical wards (ICU), medical and surgical.

Participants were also exposed to the chest tube method to help remove air or fluid in the thorax.

This program was attended by a total of 40 participants from veterinary medicine practitioners and the sharing of this program was delivered by Dr. Rozanaliza Radzi, Senior Lecturer, Department of Veterinary Clinical Studies, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine who is also the program director and assisted by Dr. Ong Siew Mei, Senior Lecturer, Department of Pet Medicine and Surgery, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Dr. Nor Alimah Rahman, Senior Veterinary Officer, Department of Pet Medicine and Surgery, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

This program is also supported by the student surgery staff, Department of Veterinary Clinical Studies and Veterinary Imaging and Diagnostics Unit, University Veterinary Hospital.

According to Dr. Rozanaliza Radzi, the objective of this program is to produce more veterinary medical practitioners who are able to provide treatment for the installation of esophagostomy feeding tubes, nasogastric tubes and chest tubes to their patients in their premises and increase the patient's survival probability.

The approach of the program that gives "hands-on" experience to participants to insert esophagostomy feeding tubes, nasogastric tubes and chest tubes can improve the skills of participants in providing treatment to patients.
